2011 COWL Week 7 Summaries Week 7 was a catch up week for 4 teams, preparing for the last week of the regular season. In a match-up of conference leader versus new team, the Young Guns accorded themselves very well as they took the conference leading Redlegs to the wall while losing a close series 2 - 1. In game 1 brad Miller and Ronnie Anderson each crushed 2 HRs and all Redlegs had at least 3 RBIs as they drew first blood in the series in a 13-6 victory with Ronnie Anderson picking up the win on the mound. For the new Young Guns Taylor hit 2 HRs as the Young Guns set about figuring out what the game of wiffle ball the COWL way is like.
Game 2 proved they were getting up to speed as they used a 9 run top of the 5th to earn a come-from-behind 20-17 win to even the series. Taylor Wallingford caught his stride, crushing 7 HRs and delivering 13 RBIs in the contest. Nick and Logan aslo added 2 HRs apiece in the victory and Hunter picked up the win on the mound. Drew Nichols and Ronnie Anderson led the Redlegs with 3 HRs each. The rubber match of the series was a back-and-forth affair, with the Redlegs claiming victory via a 7 run 4th inning that proved to be the difference in a 21-14 game. Ronnie Anderson led the Redlegs with 2 HRs and 11 RBIs and Brad Miller picked up the decisive series win. Taylor Wallingford again had a solid game, crushing 4 homers enroute to a 10 RBI game. In the other series of the night, GDE continued their hot streak by dominating the Knights for a 3-0 series win. Game 1 was a barn-burner with GDE winning 10-7 by virtue of a 5 run bottom of the 4th. Dave Page picked up the victory while Jason Weaver was the offensive star, smacking 3 HRs and having all 7 of the Knights RBIs. Game 2 was not as close as GDE built a lead early and expanded it often on the way to a 17-4 win. Blake Lansing picked up the win on the mond and Andy Russell delivered 8 RBIs on 5 HRs. GDE continued their torrid hitting with a 17-1 mercy rule game 3. Andy and Dave both crushed 5 HRs and Andy Russell notched the win from mound.

This truncated week was not as loaded with wifflers warranting Wiffler of the Week but there were a few candidates. Andy Russell had his usual good series, crushing 10 HRs for 17 RBIs with a pitching win. Ronnie Anderson also had his usual productive night, delivering 20 RBIs with 7 HRs and a pitching win. But the Wiffler of the Week for week 7 goes to a newbie, someone playing in our league for the first time. Taylor Wallingford got better as the night went on, eventually delivering 13 towering HRs and 26 RBIs, both good enough to claim spots in the COWL series record books. If Taylor gets better from that starting point he will indeed be a force to be reckoned with. Congratulations Taylor for a great COWL start !
